We Resisted, But New Prices at Sandbox Threads

We tried, but at the end of the day we had to raise our prices from $17 per item to $18. For those of you who have been with us since the beginning, you will know that $18 is still lower than our original price of $18.95 when we opened for business last year.

Our goal at Sandbox Threads is to offer the coolest baby clothes at the lowest possible price, but we also need to make a little money along to way. At the beginning of 2008, we received the new price list from each of our suppliers, and each raised their prices for 2008. Also, postal prices have increased and will again increase in the coming weeks, but we have maintained our shipping rates and kept our free shipping for orders over $50.

We still believe we are offering a better quality product at some of the lowest prices around. Most of our competitors charge four, five, and sometimes ten dollars more than Sandbox Threads. We could probably charge that much also, but we just don't want to do it. I started Sandbox Threads to offer an alternative, and we plan to continue to do just that.

Mama's for Obama, but what about Pop?

I know this is the third blog posting about Obama in a row, but I had to share Sandbox Threads' new Barack Obama design. Plenty of mamas out there are displaying their support for Obama, but what about the dads?

Well, Sandbox Threads to the rescue. No, My Pop's for Barack does not quite have the same ring to it as My Mama's for Obama, but it was the closest I could get.

Wilson's mama loves Obama, and it appears Wilson also loves his My Mama's for Obama shirt.

Super Tuesday's vote may have been split by Clinton and Obama (and those nice Republicans on the other side--we do have a Huckabee design and the Republican Elephant for our friends to the right), but I'm telling you that American moms continue to show more love for Barack. Whether this translate in the voting in the weeks to come, we will have to wait and see.

If Sales are Any Indication....

...then Barack Obama will defeat Hillary Clinton tomorrow during the Super Duper Tuesday Primary. Sandbox Threads offers both a My Mama's for Obama design along with Elect Bill, First Lady '08. My Mama's for Obama out sells Elect Bill by nearly a 10 to 1 margin.

Obviously this is an unscientific poll, but regardless, I'd be just fine if Obama got 10 to 1 during voting tommorow.

No Truer Words to Live By

I worry about the direction we are heading as a nation, and what type of country my son will inherit when he is grown. It seems that fewer and fewer people take the time to worry about or care for the greater good, but rather they focus only on self interests or how does this benefit "me."

On this holiday, I'd like to share a few words from Dr. King that I wish we all would embrace and truly live by.

The History of the Sandbox Threads Logo

Sandbox Threads is not yet officially a year old, but the planning was well underway by this time last year. The hardest part of was finding the "right" name. We came up with many, many good names only to find out that the web address was already taken.

For several weeks, Sandbox Threads was RetroBug.net. We liked the name, but it really didn't have much to do with kid clothes, and we were never really sold on the name, and we didn't like the .net. For about a day, we decided that Retro Bambino was an option, but it was quickly discarded because it was too gender specific.

Finally, one night while my wife was sleeping Sandbox Threads hit me pretty much out of nowhere. I was so excited that I woke my wife up to tell her (this never works). She didn't remember the next morning, but when I told her, she loved it, and Sandbox Threads was born.

Above is the visual history of the progression the logo of Sandbox Threads has made. I miss our first logo (and by far longest lasting logo), but I also really like our new logo and color scheme. We hope you agree.

Stay Away Boys

Most parents don't want to admit it, but before we know it, our boys will be chasing girls, and the girls running from the boys. So, when Sandbox Threads found this design, we just had to offer it. We affectionately call it Stay Away Boys.

Sandbox Threads in Pregnancy Magazine

I knew that Sandbox Threads was being featured in Pregnancy Magazine, but it did little to prepare me for actually seeing the page in the magazine. I was grocery shopping for Thanksgiving when I came upon the magazine section and realized that the new issue featuring Sandbox Threads might be out. It was, and I nearly peed my pants.

I thought about trying to play it cool, but no way, I showed the checkout lady, the bag boy, drove to my wife's office to show her, called and emailed just about everyone I know. Maybe the next feature I can play it cool, but right now, I need to go tell my neighbor and post lady.

Fall Fun & Modeling for Sandbox Threads

The Son of Sandbox Threads, Ben, often serves a dual role as the Sandbox Threads' model. Yesterday, we tried to get some new shots of Ben for the opening movie at Sandbox Threads.

The key word in the last sentence was "tried." Ben was way more interested in airplanes, watching leaves fall, and running around waving his arms likes he just doesn't care (that would make a good song lyric). He was sporting SBT's 100% Organic design.

I've always heard that models were hard to work with, but I never knew just how difficult they could be.
